We believe that birth is a normal process - that mothers and babies have the inherent ability to give birth and be born. Under normal circumstances, birth can unfold with very little intervention but requires lots of support and respectful care. Our 12 years of combined experience as doulas in a variety of birth settings has shown us that others already have what they need to give birth. We wish to share the insight we've gained from helping birth unfold in a variety of settings - home, birth center, and hospital - with no intervention and with lots of intervention.

Cesarean section is on the rise in the U.S. About 3 women in 10 now give birth by major abdominal surgery. The increase is due to many medical, legal, social and financial factors, including "defensive medicine" and changing attitudes and values of caregivers and pregnant women.
